Couples Corner: Complementing our Differences

What is interesting in couples is what made them attracted to each other. Similarities is one factor, like me and my husband, there's a lot to speak of the things common to the two of us.

There's also differences in each one, this I think is the interesting part.

To begin with, physically speaking, my husband is dark while I'm on the fairer side, he's tall while I'm short. This I guess was the first attraction between us.

He's into movies, while I'm not.
He's thrifty sometimes becoming stingy already, while I'm on the spending side.
He's more practical - functional while I'm more for aesthetics.
He is logical, I'm instinctive.
He is a mind person while I'm a gut person.
He is a quiet being, while I'm talkative.
He loves cooking, I don't
Patience: His short, mine long
He is not too keen in organizing stuff as long as it's on it's proper places
while I'm on the verge of having OCD!!!
I'm into details while he's result oriented

In spite of the difference and even what's common between us, who we are individually complements and completes the other, that I guess is the reason why we were made for each other.

Fever & Flu

Last week my husband caught the flu virus. Despite the prevention, it hit hard on him. He went on leave from work most of the week, he reported though last Tuesday, but I guess it just made it worst. He was better on Friday and was forced to go to work since it was collection day.

I thought everything was ok on Friday but when I went home for lunch, my two home companions came rushing telling me that Leon was having fever. Oh no, not my baby!!! My 3 year old son never got sick, only now. No matter how calm I tried to be, deep inside I was going nuts. Lots of what ifs were going through my mind. Sent message to my husband via SMS about our son's condition. He felt bad, had guilt feelings as he felt he brought the virus to our house.

I instructed both companions to watch over both kids, one to closely monitor Leon's temperature while the other one to observe Maia as she might be the next one to get sick. My biggest fear is that Leon's fever might develop into Dengue fever which has high occurrences in some areas in the metro.

Good thing, Leon's fever gradually went down and was out of fever late in the evening. Maia, on the other hand, was spared by the virus. The next day, I thought I was next, it was false alarm though, I was having migraine instead :(

In spite of what happened, I am thankful that the family is generally healthy. Now I know that I am on the right track in terms of taking care of my family.

I try hard not to depend on medicines to relieve me from any sickness, thus I practice a balanced diet - I make sure that whatever it is being prepared for every meal is paired with a vegetable dish. Specially with the kids, I regularly remind all of us at home to drink enough fluids everyday, not just to keep us hydrated but to aid in flushing out harmful elements in the body. I also make it a point to serve fresh fruits for the family specially to our son who is now more exposed to harmful agents. Did you know that fruits are best eaten when they are in season? Fruits are good sources of vitamins and minerals, citrus fruits are high in vitamin C which are good to combat common colds and flu.

To be extra careful though, our children consumes a vitamin C product prescribed by their pediatrician, while I take in Fern C. My husband was pessimistic about the product but after he got sick while I didn't, he now takes the supplement but not yet on a regular basis. I also give our household companions their supply of this vitamin supplement. Good thing they're having good chemistry with it.

It is worth keeping in mind, prevention is always better than cure.

Mellow Yellow Monday #03; Ruby Tuesday #02

Last week was my dad & mom-in-law's and my birthday. Usually we do celebrate it at my sis-in-law's place but this year, since my mom-in-law is in the province, dad-in-law decided just to eat out.

Last Sunday, we had an early dinner at Shakey's Restaurant along Q. Ave. There were only nine of us since, the nephews and a niece went out with my brod-in-law's brother who was here on a vacation from the US. While waiting for our order, dad-in-law played magic tricks on Leon and Lucia. We were amazed, even us adults. But after eating, while the kids were playing at the in-house arcade, dad-in-law taught us the tricks and gave our set of magic toys for us to play on our kids. Leon, as if he knows what to order

When we reached home, our Leon insisted on getting the magic toys to show to his grandma (my mom), well, his Lola and Ates (2 yayas) were amazed as well. In less than 15 minutes playing with his new toys, Leon figured out on his own the magic trick :(...oh well, kids are so smart these days, mine are, how bout yours?

Mommy Moments: Grocery Day

We started doing our groceries only a few months before I gave birth to our eldest child. It was a form of exercise for me (for easy childbirth). Back then it was only me and my husband who does the shopping, then we were joined by our eldest child Leon and now Maia, as early as 3 months comes with us in doing our grocery.

Grocery is one of our bonding moments. It is during grocery time that we are able to discuss which one we want for the household and which one is out of the grocery list. Lately Leon has been part in decision making, his stuff is occupying more space in the cart, plus himself in it too! He likes to watch the live catfish and shrimps and enjoys bagging veggies. He's having fun assisting the bagger in putting the merchandise into the shopping bag...oh our little boy...in a few more years, our little Maia will be doing the same.

We often do our groceries twice a month, yes during paydays. Fill ins are done mostly by me because I pass by a supermarket on my way home. Or favorite supermarket is Shopwise, conveniently located in Cubao plus the shopping hour goes all the way till 11:00 pm. Besides, I've got the Wise Card which accumulate points and is redeemable at a certain period.

I don't have a picture of us or the kids while doing the groceries, but I have this one, when Leon was a little over a year old...tired after doing the groceries.

CC: Our Talents

This week's theme on Couple's Corner is about our different talents.

My husband loves cooking, and that I believe is one of his talents. Cooking may be a skill for others but with my husband, it's natural on him, he can come up with a wonderful dish from whatever it is available in the ref. He can cook well I can say. I do cook but not too good as he does. His specialty is pasta. I love is tuna spaghetti in olive oil. Even our son looks forward to his pasta dishes. He is also good with Pinoy dishes, you should try his pork sinigang and pinakbet, the veggies are just right, not soggy. He has patience and uses the right timing in whatever he cooks. Just like now, I can smell the aroma of the pork bar-be-que he is cooking....can't wait to eat it!

He's into cars, too! He knows each type, class, forms and every details about it.

My talent on the other hand is on needle works, my specialty is cross-stitching, though I can work on crochets, knits, embroidery and sewing. In cross-stitch, I can stay up all night to finish on a project. One of my dream is to own a sewing machine. It'll be one of the things I'll be working on when I become a WAHM - I'll be using my talent and convert it to cash! Though I've been doing it already but not as a career.

Another talent of mine is dancing, but I haven't been dancing since I don't know when :) one reason is that my husband isn't into it. Not that he don't want me to but he doesn't know how to. I've been into cheerdancing when I was still in college and I'm proud to say that our team won three times :)

Dream Ferrari (Ruby Tueday#1)

My husband has been a fan of cars since I don't know when. Thus, whenever there's a car show in town, he'll have to drop by and check them out. Even with his cars, he tries hard to maintain them despite the tight budget. Though one was a victim of a drunk driver, the left side fender's damaged :(

One time in December of 2007, we went to a mall within the Metro and while strolling around our path lead us to a car display, a Ferrari no less!


As seen in this picture, even our son, at an early stage, shows signs of interest in cars...just like Daddy :)
